One hundred, twenty-six apartments are funded through Section 8 subsidies and pay 30% of the residents certified income. Posted rents apply to all others and are below fair market rents for Haverhill area.

Heat and electricity are included. Those who run their own air conditioners are charged $36/year extra. 

Merrivista was rented up in 1969 and has a fifty year mortgage through HUD. 

MerrivistaMerrivista features a commercial kitchen and full dining room, beautician's shop, library, television room, wellness clinic, laundry room, two roof decks (one with a greenhouse), and fenced in areas for exercising pets and gardening. 

Bethany Care provides supportive services for 34 residents and BCS does likewise for about 20 more. 

Merrivista has a property manager, assistant property manager, superintendent, two assistants and a housekeeper. The nurse is present three days and resident services person four.

Mission TowersMission Towers

Studio = 560 sq. ft.
1 Bedroom = 600 sq. ft.
2 Bedroom = 650 sq. ft.

Thirty apartment rents are scaled down according to income at 30%. 

Those not qualifying for the very low income units pay either the basic rent, or pay rent figured on a sliding scale depending on income. Residents paying these higher rents are given priority for subsidized units as their income changes. 

Mission Towers has a forty year mortgage through Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency. 

Rents include a utility allowance. Units are individually metered with electric heat and gas hot water with solar panels. 

Mission Towers has a new air-conditioned dining and activity room with a TV, two roof decks each with a greenhouse, a beautician shop, common spaces on each floor, wellness clinic, and laundry. 

Residents must have documented special needs to qualify for a two bedroom unit. 

Mission Towers has a manager, two superintendents, and a housekeeper. A nurse is on-site three days and a Resident Services coordinator 2 days a week.

PhoenixPhoenix 

All apartments at Phoenix are Section 8, and no resident pays more than 30% of adjusted income.  Studio and one-bedroom units are available. 

This 30% of income includes a utility allowance. All units are individually metered with electric heat, air conditioning and gas hot water with solar panels assisting. 

Phoenix was rented up in 1979 and has a 40 year mortgage through HUD. A resident staff member is on site. A dining and activity room welcome resident initiated activities and parties. 

Phoenix has an apartment-sized kitchen and full dining room, laundry, solarium, roof deck, wellness clinic, lobby with television, and enclosed courtyard. 

Phoenix has a property manager, superintendent, 1 1/2 assistant superintendents and housekeeper.  The activities director works four days, the nurse is present three days and resident services person two days .

Carleton HouseCarleton Home

Rent includes three meals a day served in the dining room. Parlors have cable television, stereo, and other entertainment options for use by all. Units do not include a kitchen, but access is available to refrigeration. Each is serviced by its own bathroom.

All utilities are included. Heat is by gas.

Carleton HouseCarleton Home includes a cottage that is a separate building and is home for an onsite person who cares for the lawn, snow shoveling, and minor repairs up to 7 hours a week. This person is also present to respond in case of personal or other emergency.

The staff includes a full-time manager, part-time cooks, and part-time housekeeper.

Carleton Home has a private Board of Trustees who meet annually and give counsel to the major changes. These individuals are residents of Georgetown. All activities of Bethany Homes are available to the residents of Carleton Home. A nurse visits alternate weeks and in house activities are planned weekly.

No income restrictions apply to Carleton Home and there are no subsidies available to residents.

 

Sarah's Place

Haverhill's newest adult day health center, Sarah's Place was created by the dedication and commitment of three area agencies committed to the care of elders. Bethany Homes, Penacook Place, and the Northeast Family YMCA worked together to receive a grant through the George Wadleigh Foundation to open Sarah's Place. 

Sarah's Place offers services Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities that will stimulate, enrich, and maintain their interests and abilities. A light breakfast, lunch and snack will be served daily. Transportation is available through the center's van. 

Sarah's Place will offer therapeutic activities to promote health, socialization, and improved well-being. In addition to recreation, Sarah's Place has a Registered Nurse on site to administer medication, monitor status, and communicate with the primary care physician. 

Sarah's Place recognizes the individuality of its participants. Individuals have a unique care plan created for him or her to maximize their interests and abilities. Sarah's Place offers many things to many people.  For the participant, it offers an opportunity to socialize, keep busy and active, and reconnect with the community. For the caregiver, Sarah's Place offers respite, peace of mind, and education and support. 

Sarah's Place is a wonderful combination of health and activity. It promotes an individuals interests and abilities. The staff takes the time to meet with both the individual and family to answers questions and concerns, and ensure that Sarah's Place offers them more than they need.
